Kanaiza Curates “No Shoes On My Carpet” A celebration of black living room narratives & culture. Inspired by the cross-cultural etiquette of taking off your shoes before entering someone’s home. “No Shoes On My Carpet” is an intimate and nostalgic art experience featuring 20 artists, 8 short films and 14 visual stories. Born out of real narratives and home truths; artists transport us in to their childhood homes through art and storytelling.
Contributors to the art experience come from a wide range of backgrounds and localities, some of whom will be exhibiting to UK and global audiences for the first time. Featured Artists include : Nigerian Animator Tayo Kalejaiye ; Kenyan Filmmaker & Photographer Rogers Ouma ; Atlanta based filmmaker & photographer Braylen Dion ; Ugandan London based Music Producer Mizzy Mauri; Brazilian Multi-Creative Journalist & Photographer Fabio Setti ; Idaho based Congolese Filmmaker Gracieux Baraka ; Sweden based Somali Photographer & Poet Ikram Albukadir ; Nigerian American Scriptwriter & Director Chukwunonso Dureke and more.
“No Shoes On My Carpet” transports audiences in to living rooms across the world to celebrate nostalgia, family and home. These perspectives into simpler times contrast the current surreal climate surrounding the pandemic. Audiences will be able to take a break from the chaos and enjoy the experience from the comfort of their own living rooms and homes.
